NewPage today said that it will close its Whiting, Wisconsin mill at the end of February 2011. According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s October 2010 Printing-Writing Paper Report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 4% in October compared to October 2009. Two of the four major printing-writing grades posted increases compared to last October. U.S. purchases (shipments + imports – exports) of printing-writing papers decreased, down 7% in October.
