Tembec today said that its European subsidiary, Tembec SAS, is in advanced negotiations with Paper Excellence B.V. for the sale of two Kraft pulp mills located in Tarascon and Saint-Gaudens, France.

The potential deal was first announced in November of 2009.

The American Forest & Paper Association, in its November 2009 Recovered Paper Monthly Report, said that the total U.S. industry consumption of recovered paper was 2.5 million tons, a 0.9% increase from last month, and an increase from November 2008 of 0.8%. Compared to the same eleven months of 2008, consumption is down 13.6%.

International Paper and Fibria (formerly Votorantim Celulose e Papel) have agreed to extend IP's option to build a second uncoated freesheet paper machine at the Tres Lagoas mill site. This option, which would have expired on Jan. 31, 2010, has been extended until Jan. 31, 2013.
