Statistics from China Customs showed, in 2007, China imported a total of 8.472 million metric tons of pulp at the value of USD 5.55 billion, up 6.5% and 26.3% respectively from 2006, according to a news report on China Paper Online. And, demand for pulp imports in China continues to grow.

The U.S. Department of Commerce yesterday announced its preliminary decision to apply the U.S. anti-subsidy law to imports of lightweight thermal paper from China. The preliminary decision determined that certain Chinese producers and exporters of lightweight thermal paper received countervailable subsidies ranging from 5.68% to 59.5%, with one producer receiving a duty of less than 1%.

Ahlstrom said that it will consolidate its air filtration sites in Bellingham, Massachusetts and Darlington, South Carolina to its Bethune plant in South Carolina.
