Rottneros said that it will invest SEK 50 million to construct a new plant in Spain for the production of the company's SilviPak laminated food packaging products.
The new plant will be built next to Rottneros' pulp mill in Miranda in northern Spain.
Currently the company produces the packaging material at a plant adjacent to its mill in Värmland, Sweden, which, according to Rottneros, will not have the capacity to keep up with future demand for the SilviPak product.
“We are currently in negotiations with several large European customers, and in order to meet their needs, a significant increase in capacity is required. Also, having more than one production facility is a requirement that has been expressed by the majority of our customers," said Lars Blecko, president and CEO of Rottneros. which is adjacent to the Rottneros Mill in Värmland,
Rottneros began producing SilviPak-brand food packaging in spring 2006. SilviPak is produced from paper pulp and can be moulded to suit a customer's needs. The product is used for chilled and frozen food products that will be heated in the oven or microwave.
