March 1, 2016 - Holman Paper said that PM 11 at the Hallsta Paper Mill in Sweden is producing paper again, ninety-nine days after the fire hit the pulp production in November. Pulp production at the mill began on Friday evening, Feb. 26 and paper machine 11 started producing paper on Sunday night.

PM 11 manufactures magazine paper such as Holmen VIEW and Holmen XLNT. The machine has the capacity to produce 330,000 tonnes per year.

“The clean-up and repair has been going well — we are producing paper again, and earlier than expected — thanks to our dedicated team that have been working 24/7 ever since the fire started,”, said Daniel Peltonen, mill manager at Hallsta.

Currently, pulp production is running at approximately 75 percent. To be back at full production capacity remains the restart of the fourth and final refiner line scheduled for the end of March, Holmen said in a press release.

Peltonen has a positive take on the future. “The rebuild of our TMP plant has not been an easy task. But following hard work, Hallsta is now an even better paper mill. Moreover is our product Holmen VIEW, with its new surfaces and basis weights, an even better product than before.”

Note: Holmen VIEW is a light weight uncoated (LWU) paper made from virgin fibre.
