Södra said that it will take 10 days of pulp production downtime at its mill in Tofte, Norway, beginning on October 20. The downtime will result in the removal of about 10,000 tons of softwood and hardwood pulp.
The company cited weakened demand along with over-supply in the global market as the factors leading to the decision.
The Tofte mill is one of Norway’s largest producers of chemical pulp. Some 70 percent of production is exported, while the remainder is sold on the Norwegian market. The mill has an annual capacity of about 400,000 tons.
