Construction of the new recovery plant began in May 2006.The final investment totaled over EUR 340 million, UPM said.

The new recovery plant replaces two outdated chemical recovery lines with one modern line.

The Kymi mill is an integrated pulp and fine paper producer with an annual paper production capacity of 840,000 tons on two paper machines.

The new recovery plant improves Kymi's energy self-sufficiency as well as production efficiency, while decreasing air emmissions, UPM added.

The new plant also allows for an increase in the use of biofuels and doubles bio-electricity production capacity.
