The Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) has officially approved the previously negotiated collective agreement for port workers on 6 March 2025.
The agreement with the Finnish Port Operators Association, Satamaoperaattorit ry, includes a total wage increase of 7.8 per cent over three years, implemented as general pay rises. The first increase will take effect on 1 April 2025.
On 4 March, AKT and Satamaoperaattorit reached a negotiated settlement, which has now been confirmed by the AKT board and the relevant sectoral committee. The agreement covers not only dockworkers but also administrative staff in port operations. It follows a 2+1-year model, meaning that after two years, the agreement will be reviewed, with the possibility of an extension. Other working conditions remain unchanged.
This decision follows an earlier agreement reached at the end of February for six other sectors of the transport industry, including lorry transport, bus personnel, and terminal operations. Those agreements also include a 7.8 per cent wage increase over three years and have already contributed to stability within the sector.
With the final confirmation of this agreement, the threat of strikes is averted. This is particularly significant for Finland's pulp and paper industry, which was severely impacted by port strikes in 2024.
