A massive fire broke out at Fourstones' Sapphire paper mill in Leslie, Scotland, yesterday morning.
A company spokesperson told EUWID: "All staff are safe and accounted for with no reported injuries. The fire has been contained and is under control by local fire services. We are optimistic that there is minimal impact to our operations. The incident is currently under investigation."
The mill currently has the capacity to produce 30,000 tpy of tissue based on recycled fibres.
In 2023, the company unveiled plans to double the site's capacity to 60,000 tpy and enter the primary fibre tissue market. The new machine was originally scheduled to be started up in Q2 2024.
Fourstones is a family-owned company, specialising in recycled tissue production. The company operates three sites with three paper machines and ten converting lines. Over 45,000 tpy of recovered fibre are converted annually.
