Mayr-Melnhof might part with one of its production sites in France. The company announced plans to enter into consultations with local employee representatives about the possible closure of the Sarreguemines plant.
The site is located in the northeast of France close to the German border. It produces leaflets for the western European pharma market with a capacity of 523 million units per year. The closure would affect 49 employees.
The company explained that the Sarreguemines plant had been making losses for years, with no improvement in sight. After an exploration of all options it had become evident that a continuation of operations was not viable, it added.
Mayr-Melnhof operates two other leaflet production sites in France. They are located in L'Isle d'Espagnac und Soyaux, both close to Bordeaux. In France, the group also has two plants for the production of folding boxes for pharma packaging, two luxury packaging plants and a site specialised in printing packaging.
